Microsoft offers voluntary buyouts to 60,000 staff as it bets big on AI

Microsoft has offered voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 employees, close to 27% of its global workforce, in the US, Canada, the UK and India. It's doing this while its spending on AI data centers skyrockets. In May it had already run a similar program, but much smaller (about 8,750 people in the US).

Why you should care

It's the clearest sign yet that Big Tech is moving money from payroll to AI servers. The message for anyone who works at a computer is the same as always: the people who know how to use AI in their job are the ones with the best shot at staying.
