Android Studio opens up to Claude, Codex and 40 more agents
At its Android Developer Summit, Google introduced “Bring Your Own Agent” in Android Studio Rabbit 2: the editor works with more than 40 coding agents through the open ACP protocol, including Claude, Codex and Antigravity. Agents can build the project, launch the app in the emulator and read Logcat to check their own work.
Why it matters
Google is no longer forcing you to use its AI in its own editor: you can build Android apps with the agent you already use. One more sign that agents are becoming interchangeable, and that what matters is picking the one that works best for you.
